the加形容詞表示一類人謂語動詞

the加名詞或形容詞表示一類人，后面的謂語動詞應該用復數(shù)形式。例如The poor should be helped to stand on their own feet.應該幫助窮人們自力更生。the的意思是指已提到或易領會到的人或事物，指獨一無二的、正常的或不言而喻的人或事物，解說時用。

the在形容詞前的用法

1、the與某些形容詞連用，使形容詞名詞化，相當于復數(shù)的普通名詞，表示一類人

例如：

the young 青年

the old 老年

the poor 窮人

the rich 富人

the sick 病人

2、the后面接形容詞，相當于抽象名詞

例如：

the true 真理，真實

the false 假

the sublime 崇高

the unusual 不尋常

the beautiful 優(yōu)美

3、the用于形容詞的比較級前，表示兩者中的一個“較……”、“更……”、“最……

例如：

the larger of the two desks.兩張書桌中較大的一張。

the elder of the two sisters.兩姐妹中年紀較大的一個。

the smaller of the two oranges.兩個桔子中較小的一個。

She is the older and the more beautiful of the two girls.兩個女孩中，她年齡較大也比較漂亮。

4、the用于形容詞的最高級前

例如：

Mike is the best student in his class.邁克是他班級中最好的學生。

Hangzhou is the most beautiful place I have ever visited.杭州是我所到過的最美的地方。

但是，當形容詞的最高級單獨作表語或最高級前有形容詞性物主代詞修飾時，不用the。

例如：

It's best to go there by bike.最好是騎自行車去那兒。

He's happiest when he is working.他工作的時候最愉快。

5、the用于形容詞前，表示某一物的特殊部分，這樣的形容詞已經(jīng)兼有了名詞詞性

例如：

the white of an egg 蛋白

the flat of one's hand 掌心

the white of an eye 眼白

6、the用于形容詞結(jié)構(gòu)之前

例如：the former...(the latter)前者……(后者……)
